From a civil society perspective, Opr. Dr. Cüneyt Tuğrul also continues his work as the Founding President and Chairman of the Board of Directors at SAĞKAL (Health Quality Association) . SAGKAL, with the project under the name of Izmir Hope Houses, offers free and safe accommodation for women cancer patients who come from outside the city and need RT treatment in Izmir and whose financial situation is not suitable for effording the stay.
SAGKAL designs its projects with the awareness that every person has the right to access the highest quality and best health care which is possible. More than 13 thousand overnight stays have been provided within the scope of Hope Houses since 2016.
The issue that the association emphasizes is the Lymphedema bracelet service for women who have undergone surgery for breast cancer. Patients wear these bracelets on their arms where they underwent surgery. On the braceletsthere is a printed warning "I Have Breast Surgery, Lymphedema May Develop in My Arm." It says. Thus, before intervening in a patient who may lose consciousness for any reason, the healthcare personnel sees the warning on the arm and does not use this arm during the intervention.
